Thermoelectric Electricity Now Available in Foot Apparel to New Boots To Generate Electricity From Your Feet Charge Phones

A company known as Orange has released a new boot. This is not an ordinary boot, but a boot which can generate electricity with every step that the wearer takes. The electricity is generated through a specialized thermoelectric system which is located in the sole of the boot. The process of creating the thermal power is known as the Seebeck effect and is done by using modules created with specially constructed pairs of p and n type semiconductors which are coupled with ceramic plates. When the combination of the cold floor outside of the boot and the heat from the steps taken with the feet are run through this system, electricity is produced.

The electricity that is generated through the Seebeck effect can be stored in the boot and routed to a mobile phone to charge the phone. Although not very efficient, it is still free power and a good amount of steps (half a day’s worth) will be able to charge a phone for the equivalent of one hour of charge time. This is still pretty efficient if you have no other way to charge your phone while away from outlets in any setting. The boots can be made into many different styles and they are certainly comfortable enough for people to wear them all day to generate electricity for their mobile phones.

These new boots are designed to keep the wearer’s feet dry and provide an alternative reason to go out and walk around. They may not save a lot of money on the electricity bill, but every step taken helps to reduce the amount energy needed to power necessary devices such as mobile phones which are an essential part of nearly everyone’s lives today. This technology may be adapted to other forms in the future for vehicles and other applications as well.

Technology is evolving, and shoes like this are going to become more normal every year. The ability to generate power from your movement is nothing new, think bicycles or paddle boats, but the thought of gaining energy from the effort you put into walking is pretty cool.

Imagine if you were on a long road trip and had many different stops and you were always needing to use your phone. Sure you could get another battery or a battery pack if you have an iPhone or the like, but imagine if your battery just stayed fully charged because you were always on the move. Pretty amazing!
