Motorola Droid X Available for Pre-Order

Motorola Droid X Available for Pre-OrderThe Motorola Droid X is Motorola’s contender amongst some heavy hitting smartphones and even the new release from Apple. The Motorola Droid X went on pre-order from the Best Buy chain of electronics and entertainment stores on the 25th of June. The price is set at a clean $199.99 plus applicable taxes without the Verizon rebate for $100. This makes it truly a great phone for a great price when compared to what you get with the competitors.

The Motorola Droid X will boast features such as the 4.3 inch touch screen with a resolution of 280×854 pixels. The fast and powerful Texas Instruments OMAP 3630 processor at 1 Gigahertz and 512 megabytes of ram will be sure to run any app that you wish. It will also have 8 Gigabytes of app storage available for those who will be taking advantage of the app rich capabilities of the phone. It will be able to connect to the 3G signals for fast internet and browsing capabilities. The Motorola Droid X comes with a 16 Gigabyte microSD card storage included which could be upgraded to a 32 Gigabyte option.

The phone can be pre-ordered to prevent the fiasco with the iPhone 4 where it was sold out on release day in many cities across the country. The phone is very generous in its features while still remaining one of the most affordable options on the market, even when compared to similar droid models available from other competing carriers.

The Motorola Droid X will ship with Android 2.1, with a minimized version of MotoBLUR, Motorola’s own custom UI that is stamped on top of the Android operating system. It is disappointing that they X will not be shipping with 2.2, but as the first release just went out to developers at third parties in the past week or so, it is hard for them to ship with the latest and greatest. The great news is that Motorola is going to try and get 2.2 out by the end of July or in August at the latest, so that will help those with Droid envy catch up pretty quick to the Nexus One, the only phone on the market with 2.2 still.

The Motorola Droid X is going to be a great competitor to the rest of the Android field, and it will be interesting to see which one wins out on Verizon, the Incredible or the Motorola Droid X, only time will tell.

At the same time as I love a bodily keyboard, after coping with the Samsung Captivate for about 15 minutes, it is onerous to head back. Presently I am debating whether to visit Verizon for the Droid X, move to Sprint for the EVO, or stay with AT&T for the Captivate…decisions, decisions.
