MSN was launched in 1996 and since that time no significant upgrades have occurred until this release. Previous users of MSN can upgrade their account using the link located on the old home page of their existing account.

The new Live version will create an even faster and more advanced way to continue the needs of Microsoft users. With the use of feedback from beta testers, the new version was created to be more user friendly with a look and feel to surprise all users.

With the new version of Live Hotmail customers can check their e-mail from numerous locations, it allows for the flexibility of today’s users. The biggest change is in the number of new mobile devices you can use to check and send your e-mails. Mobile phones and PDA’s and through Windows Mobile, you can keep up to the minute track of all your e-mail needs. The new version will look and feel like more like Outlook Business. Individual users will be provided with 2 GB of storage, which has the capacity to grow based on need.

Safety will be a major improvement of the new Live Hotmail. Each e-mail you receive will have a safety bar reading, giving users an idea of the safety to open. Setup like a stop light, green means good or safe to open, yellow is a warning that it is from unknown senders, red meaning it is unsafe and could be fraudulent. The new spam protection can be set, and after clicking, no e-mails from a particular e-mail address will be sent to that user in the future. This will also report back to Microsoft and help others not to receive spam e-mails from senders.

With the new version you can choose to stick with the classic look of MSN, or the new slick design. Users can also change the color scheme to fit their individual tastes. All this to create a more user friendly and more modern Hotmail e-mail experience.
