Google And Verizon Launching Chrome OS Tablet?

Google has been having a tremendous amount of success with it’s Android OS over the past year. Currently, over 200,000 Android devices are activated each day, and the Android OS has overtaken Apple’s iOS in terms of user base. What you may have forgotten is that Android isn’t Google’s only OS.

Google has been working on the Chrome OS for some time now. Chrome OS is intended to be a lightweight online focused OS that integrates heavily with the various Google services to provide a rich computing experience with light hardware requirements. Chrome OS will require users to log in with their Google account, and from there, you’ll have integrated access to the entire suite of Google apps, including Gmail, Google Calender, and of course, Google Docs.

The lightweight nature of Chrome OS makes it an ideal candidate for use in netbooks, and tablet PC’s. One such device is rumored to be on the way from Google and Verizon. HTC is rumored to be manufacturing a tablet PC with a Tegra 2 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 32GB hard drive, and all the other features you’d expect such a device to have, such as GPS, Wifi, and 3G internet.

Google And Verizon Launching Chrome OS Tablet? The device is rumored to be launching on Black Friday, otherwise known as November 26th. There hasn’t been any word on pricing, but the same rumor sources that have been talking about the tabled have indicated that it will either be extremely cheap, or free with a Verizon contract. This tablet would have one major competitor: the iPad. Given that the cheapest iPad runs $499, it seems likely that the Chrome OS tablet could gobble up a significant amount of market share in a short time if Google and Verizon play their cards right.

The Chrome OS sounds like a great idea, especially if you use the Google suite of apps heavily. A Chrome OS tablet with a 3G connection could give you access to all of your files, and data anywhere where you can get a signal. With all of the productivity features offered by the Google suite of apps, this tablet could become extremely popular if the rumors prove to be true.
